Due Thursday 9/16

In a clearly labeled word document, please formulate a one-sentence answer to the question: Why does Flurry succumb to temptation?

After you have written your sentence, find three meaty quotations to back up/support it. Type out each quotation and provide a page number. After each quotation, show how/why the quotation supports your sentence.

Please keep in mind the following:

a. Your sentence shouldn’t state the obvious. For example, don’t say something like “Flurry succumbs to temptation because he’s a little boy.” Go beyond that—say what about being a little boy makes Flurry succumb to temptation. Even better, what particular aspect of Flurry’s nature makes him succumb to temptation?

b. The answer you provide in your sentence is an opinion, not a fact, about the text; it’s an idea that will need to be proved by quotations and analyses of quotations from the story. In other words, your sentence uncovers an implied idea in the story.

c. A good sentence is one that should both surprise and make sense to your reader. It should help your reader to understand the story on a deeper level.
