Week 13: Openings, Conclusions, and Revision
Mon 4/18--Please post your favorite opening line on Canvas, under "Discussions."
Make sure to post in the correct section.
Also:
Please read the following plot summary of The Long Goodbye: Long Goodbye Plot Summary (we'll be talking about the novel's ending in class so I want you to have a sense of what happens in the novel. Be warned: it's a very complicated--and somewhat ridiculous--plot!)
Also, read the attached pages on conclusions. Think about how you'd answer the questions posed in section 2 (page 88 on the PDF).
Tues 4/19--Read "A Christmas Miracle" at the end of your reader (note: we'll stick with this story for Tuesday and do the other story later...)
What makes the intro and the conclusion successful?
Or, if you don't like them, why do they fail for you? What would you suggest instead?
Thurs 4/21--Read "Revision" in Writing Fiction, 316-329 and 333-338.
Fri 4/22--Read "Hanwell in Hell" in your reader.
As with "A Christmas Miracle," ask yourself:
What makes the intro and conclusion successful?
Or, if you don't like them, why do they fail? What would you suggest instead?
