Tu 9/26 (S): Read and annotate Notes, pp. 42-60 (18 pages)

Wed 9/27 (L): Read and annotate Notes, pp. 60-82 (21 pages)

Fri 9/28 (S): Read and annotate Notes, pp. 82-98 (16 pages)

  • Brief writing assignment on CANVAS

      • Please come up with two potential essay questions following the guidelines on Canvas

      • Make sure to post your questions in the correct block.

Th 10/5 (L): In-Class Essay #3 on Notes

    • Write a practice essay or a freewrite on one of the essay topics/questions posted on Canvas for homework.

      • Review the mechanical errors and content suggestions from the first essay before writing the practice essay/freewrite.

      • Incorporate quotations from the reading in your practice essay/freewrite

      • word count minimum: 500 words

      • Post your practice essay/freewrite here

    • I'd encourage you to do the following:

      • Look at the sample essays I've posted on Google Classroom. There are now two: one on Thoreau and one from a previous seminar.

        • Pay especial attention to the essays'

          • thesis sentences

          • topic sentences

          • analysis of quotations in support of topic sentences

    • Block B Sample Essays

    • Block E sample essays
