Tuesday 10/29--Read and take notes on The Odyssey, Book XII.

Wednesday 10/30--Read and take notes on The Odyssey, Book XIII.

Thurs, 10/31—Read summary of Books 14-17 (see linked summary of Books 14-17). Also, read and take notes on The Odyssey,Book 18:

Fri, 11/1—Quiz on Chap. 7 of Vocabulary Energizers; also, read about subjects and verbs in HGW, pp. 12-14, 16-18. Bring pink workbook. (We will do pp. 33-34 in class.)

Mon 11/4--Read and takes notes on The Odyssey, Bk 19.

Tues 11/5--Read and takes notes on The Odyssey, Bk 20.

Weds 11/6--No class (history field trip).

Thurs 11/7--Read and takes notes on The Odyssey, Bk 21.

  • Be prepared for an optional re-test on myth quiz. May or may not happen on this day!

Fri 11/8--Quiz on Chapt.8 of Vocab Energizers; also read about direct objects and indirect objects in HGW (28-30 and 121). Bring pink workbook to class.

Mon 11/11--School Holiday!

Tues 11/12--Read and takes notes on The Odyssey, Bk 22.

Weds 11/13--Read and take notes on The Odyssey, Bk. 23.

Thur 11/14--Read and takes notes on The Odyssey, Bk 24 (the end!).

Fri 11/15--On your homework website, post a freewrite on the topic (passages) of your choice.

    • Essay instructions and passages are posted as a PDF below.

    • Word count for freewrite: 600 words.

    • Please write quickly and do the freewrite within a 40 minute time limit.

Mon 11/18--On your homework website, post the following:

    • An complete introduction (that, of course, concludes with a thesis sentence)

    • Two analytical topic sentences that follow from your thesis

Tues 11/19--On your homework website, please post the following:

    • Six quotations from the text of The Odyssey

    • Analysis of each quotation (50-75 words each)

    • Word count: 300 words minimum (not including quotations)

Weds 11/20--Draft of the entire essay due. Please post on your homework site.

Thurs 11/21--Final draft of Odyssey essay due. Don't forget to bring your laptop to class; you'll post the essay on turnitin.com during class time.

Fri 11/22--Quiz on Chap. 9 of Vocabulary Energizers. Also, read about subjective complements (predicate nouns and predicate adjectives) in HGW (28-30 and 121); bring pink workbook (we will do pp. 35-38 in class).

Week 14

For Mon, 11/25—No homework. Intro to Poetry in class.

For Tues, 11/26—Read and mark up “Richard Cory” (3)

For Wed, 11/27—Read and mark up “”Base Details” (4)

THANKSGIVING VACATION 11/28 -12/1 NO HOMEWORK!

NOTE: Please come to class with your poetry packet and each night’s assigned poem(s) marked up.

Week 15

Monday 12/2—No class. English Department Workday.

For Tues, 12/3—Read and mark up “First Death in Nova Scotia” (7).

For Wed, 12/4—Read and mark up “Mrs. Small” ((8-9).

Also, do the attached homework on "Mrs. Small"--poetry exercise on "Mrs. Small"
