• Read "Hanwell in Hell" in the reader, pp. 95-104

  • • Think about how Zadie Smith describes Hanwell: what methods of characterization does she use and to what effect?

    • How does Smith convey the narrator's character?

    • How does she describe minor characters?

• • Character questionnaire assignment--to be completed at home.

Friday 3/8--S:

• • Journal entry:

    • For today's journal entry, make a list of 3-5 people you know who would make interesting characters for a story.

    • Pick one and describe their appearance, manners, gestures, clothing, the way the speak. You might also describe an action they've taken that intrigues you and speculate about what they might be thinking

    • If any of these people are from College Prep, be sure to change their names.

    • Word count: 950 words.

      • Only 400 words need be about the above. The rest can be about whatever you want.
