Week 1

Monday, 1/30 -- Review of midyear exam; intro to Shakespeare and Twelfth Night

Tuesday, 1/31 – Read and take notes on Twelfth Night, Act I, scene 1.

Wednesday, 2/1 –Read and take notes on Twelfth Night: Act I, scenes 2 &3.

Thursday, 2/2 –Read and take notes on Twelfth Night: Act I, scenes 4 & 5.

Friday, 2/3 – Vocab Quiz on Chapter 1 of VEII (the green one); read about

participles in HGW, pp. 130 -132 and Workbook, p. 51 and do exercises on p. 52.

Week 2

Monday, 2/6 --

    • Read and take notes on Twelfth Night: Act II, scenes 1 & 2.

    • Do revision of paragraph of poetry analysis. Please answer the questions posted on "Reflections in Writing" regarding your essay . Also, post your revision under "Homework."

Tuesday, 2/7 – Read and take notes on Twelfth Night: Act II, scene 3.

Wednesday, 2/8– In-class writing on Twelfth Night: Act II, scene 4.

    • Note: essay question may refer back to earlier scenes from Act 1 or Act 2.

Thursday, 2/9 –Read and take notes on Twelfth Night: Act II, scene 5 (discuss scenes 4 & 5 in class).

Friday, 2/10 – English Dept. Work Day: No Class

Week 3

Monday, 2/13 – Read and take notes on Twelfth Night, Act III, scenes 1 & 2.

Tuesday, 2/14 – Read and take notes on Twelfth Night: Act III, scenes 3& 4 (read to pg. 119, line 150).

Wednesday, 2/15— Read and take notes on Twelfth Night: Finish Act III.

Thursday, 2/16—Read and take notes on Twelfth Night: Act IV.

Friday, 2/17— Vocab quiz on VEII, Chapter 2; read about gerunds in Workbook,

pp. 53 & 54 and do exercises on p. 53

Week 4

Monday, 2/20—School Holiday

Tuesday, 2/21-- Finish Twelfth Night (Act V). Take notes as usual.

Questions to be thinking about:

    • What is love?

    • What are the various forms love takes?

    • Does anyone in the play love truly?

    • What does it mean to really love another person?

    • Is love a form of madness? Acc. to Shakespeare? Acc. to you?

    • What's the connection between love and the theme of appearance vs. reality in the play?

Wednesday, 2/22— In- CLASS ESSAY.

For homework:

  1. Look over attached sheet on the Socratic Seminar. Reflect on your answers to these questions. Tomorrow's question will be different from these, but these should help you prepare for the essay.

  2. Review your notes/the parts of the play you marked up.

  3. Can also review the scribe notes, if you'd like.

  4. Please also read over my comments on your first passage analysis (to be found in the "Reflections on Writing" part of your personal website) and answer the questions to be found there (using the "edit" button):

    1. What aspect/s of your paragraph are you proud of?

    2. What aspect/s of your paragraph need improvement?

    3. How long did your paragraph take you to write? How was your pacing?

    4. What might you do on tomorrow's in-class essay that you tried out in this last essay?

    5. What might you do a little differently?

Thursday, 2/23—No new homework. Discuss end of Twelfth Night.

Friday, 2/24— Vocab quiz on VEII, Chapter 3; read about infinitives in Wordbook,

p. 58 and start exercises on p. 59.
