Hey York,
I have some exciting news!
I hope everyone is going to enjoy this week’s Pride Week, which is full of fun activities and themed casual days.
However, next week on April 14-17, The York School will also be celebrating Eco Week with a variety of activities throughout the week - planned by the Eco Committee.
Everyday that week, we are encouraging everyone to get to school using anything but a car and to bring a reusable water bottle or travel mug! As you enter the school through the main entrance, we invite you to add a dot in your house colour to the Collective Action Wall in the Learning Commons for doing either or both of these actions!
All week we will be playing environmental movies or shows in the cafeteria during lunch.
On Tuesday, we are hosting a bake sale in the cafe during lunch and recess. You guys should really come by to grab a baked good, and support an environmental charity! (they are going to be delicious)
On Wednesday, we welcome Josh Fullan from Maximum city to our assembly!
On Thursday April 17th, there is a Community Clean Up happening at lunch where we will be picking up litter in the community. Participants can choose to walk or jog in a small group as they pick up litter (it’s called plogging and it's a real thing!) You will be dismissed slightly early from class before lunch and return around 1pm. Sign up via this form by Friday, April 11th. (surely students can get some service/volunteer hours out of this activity)
Overall this is going to be a very exciting and fun week. It is important that we celebrate our environment and dedicate at least a week towards it - in reality we should dedicate every day. Our environment provides us with the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink. We are lucky to have clean water, fresh air and healthy food, but we can always do better about not littering our parks and streets. That is why we are doing the clean up on Thursday.
So get excited York, enjoy this week’s Pride Week and next week come ready to celebrate our environment!!
