Hey Senior School! Do you care about the environment? Do you want York to bee (🐝 ) more eco friendly? Join Eco Team and become one of York’s very own Earthlings 🌎!
What’s new this year?
Our goal to become EcoSchool certified! There are lots of things that go into this certification, but York is already on the right track. Here are some of the details of what’s been done, and what’s being done:
Eco Schools Canada Mission Statement:
“EcoSchools Canada works to nurture environmental leaders, reduce the ecological impact of schools, and build sustainable school communities.”
What We Need to Do to Get Certified:
Follow actions with guidelines or create our own and log them to the website
Each action is worth points that get added up
Examples:
Create an Eco Code
Audit waste at York
Celebrate Earth Day
And more! (check the link below)
What Else?
There are four levels of certification that we can achieve; bronze, silver, gold or platinum
At the end of year, applications are assessed and schools are awarded a final certification level based on the number of points they have accumulated
To learn more about certification and actions visit the EcoSchool website.
Eco Team is a place for everyone who is passionate about the environment and wants to make a change for the better here at York. (FYI action meetings count for service and CAS hours too!)
To join, go to Room 408 (11&12) and 406 (9&10) at 12 on Fridays Week A!
