Let's try and cut the comparison....easier said than done right?
We are all built so differently, with unique strengths, challenges and attributes. Yet we spend so much time comparing ourselves to others. What happens in our minds as we scroll on our feeds, walk around school...etc We are flooded with thoughts "they look better in that..at least I did better on that math test...everyone is on vacation right now but me, whatever at least I have more friends than them....etc."
How is this helping? Well we are wired to compare ourselves to others to gain a sense of where we are supposed to be at that moment in time, however when it turns into negative self talk, envy and shame it no longer serves a purpose. Here are 2 of my favourite ways to CANCEL COMPARISON!
1. Gain perspective- volunteering can help build empathy and cultivate gratitude for what you get to do and who you get to be
2. Take risks. Unfollow/mute accounts that elicit uncomfortable/shameful feelings, own your look/thoughts/opinions even if they differ from other people.
