Ms. Zhao, Mandarin teacher interview:
1. What is the most interesting thing that you’ve learned this year (2024-2025)?
"Adjusting to a new rule, like a phone ban, can foster a sense of adaptability and show students they can thrive without constant connectivity."
2. Can you tell us about a time that you made a mistake in class?
"In one instance, I handed back a senior class reading paper and mistakenly marked a student's correct answer as incorrect. The error occurred because I had misread my own answer key. When the student talked to me, I rechecked the answer and realized my mistake. I apologized, corrected the grade, and thanked the student for bringing it to my attention."
3. How do you handle it when students don't understand the material?
Adjust My Explanation
Use Alternative Methods
Encourage Peer Support
Provide Extra help
4. What, would you say, is the most common misconception about mandarin class?
Thinking this language is the most difficult language in the word
For English speakers, Mandarin can be more challenging because of its writing system and tones
Unlike alphabet-based languages, Mandarin uses characters, which can seem overwhelming because each one has a unique meaning and pronunciation.
