A MAGICAL article by: Eloise and Zoe, 25/11/2025.
It has been 9 years since the release of the second Now You See Me movie but don’t worry and on November 14, 2025, Now You See Me Now You Don’t was released and far exceeded all expectations that Zoe and Eloise had for it. This movie was full of perfected magic tricks and unthinkable plot twists no one saw coming. For anyone who hasn’t seen this series, I highly recommend watching them as they are unlike most magician movies. (if those are even a thing)
Just to recap everyone on what happened in the first two movies, a magician group called the four horsemen are brought together to perform large scale illusions that seem impossible, all for the greater good of the world. When the stakes of their tricks increase, the government starts to question the motives behind their magic. In the second movie, the horsemen are on an elaborate heist involving a large tech company that escalates the risks of the first movie and the lengths they will go to pull off the trick. Also between the first two movies, there was a casting change. The original Four Horsemen were portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg as Atlas, Woody Harrelson as Merritt, Dave Franco as Jack, and Isla Fisher as Henley. Sadly Isla Fisher didn’t return for the second movie and her character, Henley, was replaced by Lizzy Caplan who played Lula.
When going into the movie I knew from the trailer that Henley would be returning to the horsemen but there was sadly no mention of Lula. There were three new characters in this movie who I think were meant as younger additions to the cast and they sort of made fun of the older characters. My assumption is that they were added to the movie as a way to engage with a younger audience. The three new characters were Bosco played by Dominic Sessa, Charlie played by Justice Smith, and June played by Ariana Greenblatt.
As for the plot of the movie, the three new magicians are performing magic around New York under the name “the four horsemen” which leads them to be discovered by Atlas. He invites them to Antwerp, Belgium to help perform their biggest trick yet, taking down a diamond mining company whose leader (Rosamund Pike as Veronica) just so happens to be the leader of a large international crime syndicate. With the help of the original four horsemen, the three new horsemen have to steal the prized jewel of Veronica’s company before it goes back into a vault and there won’t ever be another chance to reveal the secrets of her company.
After watching this movie, I was happy with it. It wasn’t as good as the first movie (but nothing will be) although there was a good build up of suspense and plot twists I didn’t see coming at all. The movie had multiple storylines as there were more characters than in previous movies so that was a new twist I’m not sure if I enjoyed. However if you are interested in suspenseful movies with unexpected endings this is the movie for you. Have fun watching!
