Robbery. The first words that came to mind after watching the 2025 Grammys. Sunday, February 2nd was a sad, sad, MISERABLE day for society. Let’s get into why.
Album of the year – BEYONCE??? COWBOY CARTER???
To say this was a disappointing result is beyond an understatement. This category was absolutely STACKED, featuring albums such as hit me hard and soft by Billie Eilish, BRAT by Charli XCX, Short and Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter, Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess by Chappell Roan, The Tortured Poets Department by Taylor Swift, and some others that did not have a lasting impact, such as Andre 3000’s flute album (weird choice but ok??) Out of all of these albums, which have connected with so many people, which have been the soundtrack of peoples summer, Cowboy Carter won album of the year. This is the equivalent of going into your math exam, feeling super confident with everything, and you get a 2 (IB and Ontario). Based on popularity alone, Cowboy Carter was COMPLETELY off the Billboard hot 200 within 28 weeks of its release. Comparing that to Billie Eilish’s nominated album, which is CURRENTLY at number 10 of the list. Other albums featured in the top 20 of the Billboard hot 200 are Short and Sweet, Hit Me Hard and Soft, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess and the Tortured Poet Department. At number 52, BRAT is still going strong on the list. So WHY DID COWBOY CARTER WIN???? Maybe the rumours are true about Beyonce and the academy was scared of her, who knows. Maybe it's because Jay-Z called the academy out for never having Beyonce win album of the year in the past, who knows. All I know is that there's something fishy going on behind the scenes.
Best Rock Performance – the Beatles..?
Let’s look at the definition of performance. A performance is an ‘act of staging or presenting a play, concert, or other form of entertainment.’ With this definition in mind, can someone please explain to me why the Beatles, a band with two members who have been six feet under for decades, won best rock performance. The song they won for, Now and Then, was constructed using old demos and AI generated the rest. So, let me ask you, how did they perform it?? The answer is they didn't. It's never been performed. The music video was Paul and Ringo standing next to John and George photoshopped next to them. The Beatles just won because they're the Beatles. This is rigged.
I can’t even fathom spending too much time on this topic. I can feel my blood pressure rising by the second. If this article is too long, I fear Beyonce will come to get me. Check out Neva’s article if you want to hear about the…interesting fashion choices seen.
