Welcome to Constellations: An Anthology, the 2022-2023 collection of work by the York School’s creative writers! The theme of this year’s anthology is a single word: Star. We knew there were as many possible interpretations of the theme as there are stars in the universe. The poems and stories that comprise this anthology reflect this variety.
As the spring season finally seems to be here to stay, here are a few contest opportunities for interested poets that are not only spring themed, but also relate to journalism, as you'll find out from our information about the "Fighting Words: Poetry in Response to Current Events" contest and workshops. Pippa Dempsey-Hall and Emily Rosen bring you this poem about the fragile state of democracies around the world. Pippa and Emily wrote and performed this incredible piece in 2021, but now in 2023, the poem’s final line—and overall warning—is proving, unfortunately, to be true.
Grace Plumpton-Hill's poem “A Confession to Us” is about how it feels to lose yourself to your mental illness and to rediscover happiness in the midst of feeling lost. It is an emotional reflection on a personal experience with mental health, formatted as a confession to the part of one's self that may get lost. If this poem speaks to you, just know that you’re heard.

We thank Lauren for sharing this deeply personal look into her life, thoughts and habits for us to learn from and reflect on.
