We live in a world where it’s really easy to get swept up in your day, with our schedules, school work, and whatever extracurriculars you do outside of school. You work and work until you look up and suddenly realize that it's 5pm and you haven’t eaten lunch and you can't even remember what you've been doing for the past 8 hours. (Or maybe that's just me). It's even easier to get swept up in your work with so much of it being online, you won't look up at your computer for hours.
Something I’ve been trying to incorporate into my life are small check-ins with myself. Checking in with yourself helps you confront your emotions and feelings toward different things. While it’s okay to just think of the answers to these questions it would be much better for you to document them somewhere, like in a journal. Starting with questions about some external factors helps me get a gauge of what kind of environment I have been in and how it can improve. Something like the 5 questions below:
What makes me happiest?
What am I thankful for today?
What has inspired me recently?
What did I react negatively to recently?
How can I improve my surroundings to improve myself?
Those questions can be heavy enough for some people (some people being me), so feel free to stop there and think about how you answered those questions. If you feel comfortable getting a little more personal, try out these next 5 questions.
What have I done for myself lately? Is it enough?
What's one thing I can thank myself for?
What do I love about me?
What emotion have I felt the most recently?
Is the way I’m living sustainable for my health?
Being in tune with yourself and your emotions isn’t exactly the easiest thing, however, same as anything else, it gets easier with practice. The best way to remember to do this is to literally constantly remind yourself. When I say constantly, I mean constantly, like set reminders, leave yourself notes, just anything you can do, and don't worry you’ll always get reminders from your Wellness Team at York
