Hey york!
Remember when I wrote an article about Canadian culture shocks? And how I mentioned the clothes people wear here?
Well I’m here to talk more about it.
From what I’ve noticed, Canadians wear a lot of athletic clothes such as leggings and casual pants. Lululemon, Brandy Melville, Garage and Aritzia got all of the “Canadian girl essentials”. And I’m really not hating on them. I think the clothes that they sell are cute, and I have also shopped there. I just feel like it's very Canadian…all of the tank tops, leggings, high socks… you know what you can find there.
Shoes such as dunks, adidas sambas and uggs are also very prominent here. I don’t know much about what guys wear here…although a hoodie seems to be an essential (bonus points if paired with some sport jersey).
Now you may ask how Swedish style is so different from Canadian style?
Well firstly you’ll always see a Swedish girl or a guy in jeans - lowrise boot cut jeans for girls, and wide straight leg jeans for guys. Instead of a puffer jacket, you'll most likely see a Swedish person wearing either a long or a short coat. You’ll rarely see Swedish people wear bright colors…mostly gray, black, dark blue and white is their color palette.
Swedish people don’t like loud brands, they mostly go for a look of “quiet luxury” and prefer their clothes to be high quality. However teenagers will always buy what is trending in Sweden.
Girls will often wear sweaters, or a top with a cardigan. They usually shop at stores like Zara and Gina Tricot. It is hard to explain the aesthetic so here are some examples…
Guys will also wear sweaters, quarter zips and a white shirt underneath. Polos and button ups are also very common, with a vest over it. When it comes to shoes, they would rather go for a more elegant look like an Axel Arigato shoe (a Swedish brand) than a Nike sneaker. An example of a Swedish style on a guy would look something like this…
Personally I prefer the Swedish style, but I also understand why people would prefer Canadian. So there you have it York!
