It can be difficult to find good and niche lunch-out restaurants within the given boundaries for middle school students, especially ones that aren’t overcrowded and won’t take more than the given hour. Here are some recommendations for when you haven’t got a plan (or when your friend group can’t agree on anything):
Hero Burger
So many times at lunch out the entire grade has immediately bolted for Holy Chuck, but my friends and I have discovered a less popular alternative. Hero Burger is less crowded, often cheaper, and has more vegetarian options for those with dietary restrictions. Also, they have great poutine. Just saying.
Bagel House
Now, I know some of you are thinking, Bagels for lunch? Really? As a die-hard bagel fan, all this signifies to me is that you haven’t all been to the really good bagel restaurants. Not only are they healthier than all the fast food sold around our school, but they can come in a variety of flavours with a variety of toppings.
Loblaws
When I asked a group of students for their favourite lunch spots near York, this was by far the most popular response. Their reasons: it’s exceptionally fast, has so many options and is healthier than a lot of the alternatives. My explanations: The self checkout prevents long wait times, they sell virtually everything you could want, and have more than just fried food. The sushi is a personal favourite, and the pizza is quite popular.
Domino's
Speaking of pizza, Domino’s is perfect and a great choice to visit with friends. Apart from its wait-times, Domino’s is essentially the ideal choice. It’s super close to the school, only one crosswalk away, and is quite cheap compared to certain restaurants and other pizza places. Be sure to take advantage of your rates and ratios lessons in math to pool your money with friends and get more food per person.
Tim Hortons
Guess who also just started selling pizza! And it’s not half bad, either. Tim Hortons is close to a very nice park, so you can eat there during the warmer months. While you’re there, you can grab a donut or a muffin, too. Win-win situation, if you ask me.
I hope these spark ideas for your next lunch out, whether it be this week, next month, or later this term. Stay safe, York!
