Playboi Carti has finally released his fourth studio album, MUSIC, after a five year wait. When MUSIC was released on March 14th, it became an immediate success, amassing 184 million Spotify streams on debut, becoming Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day in 2025 so far. MUSIC is currently outpacing on streaming albums such as Chromakopia, GNX and $$$4U. MUSIC is filled to the brim trap-rage beats, Carti’s unique distorted (and often unintelligible) vocals, as well as some of the greatest features ever seen in the hip-hop industry.
Song #1: POP OUT
Rating: 5/10
Let's get this out the way. POP OUT is the worst song on MUSIC, and probably the worst song Carti has ever released. The song is a pure mosh pit anthem, with an extremely loud and prominent bass, contributing to a dark and jarring beat. Carti’s vocals are absolutely obscene, resembling the shouting of a deganged rock star. Carti still has decent flow on the song, which can definitely (maybe) be appreciated if you don’t mind the utterly chaotic production.
Song #2: CRUSH (with Travis Scott)
Rating: 9/10
The production on CRUSH is an absolute 10/10 masterpiece. The beat again features heavy bass, catchy synth in the background, and a harmonized chorus in the background. Unfortunately Carti hardly raps on the beat, only dropping proper bars 2 minutes into the song, while Travis just does a few adlibs. What we get out of Carti though absolutely slaps.
Song #3: K POP
Rating: 8/10
K POP is one of three songs on MUSIC previously shown on Carti’s YouTube channel, though not officially released (till now). Carti delivers his stylized deep-voice vocals on K POP, which has another rage-trap style beat, though with less emphasis on strong bass. Carti flows well on the beat, though again the song leaves more to be desired as it is barely two minutes long.
Song #4: EVIL J0RDAN
Rating: 7/10
Carti’s second YouTube song, featuring more deep voice vocals. EVIL J0RDAN also has a minute-long build up to the beat drop, which could honestly be considered a “TikTok intro.” This song feels very similar to K POP, but with a less catchy beat and lyrics. Taking the intro into consideration, the song is also very short, which doesn’t help its case.
Song #5: MOJO JOJO (with Kendrick Lamar)
Rating: 6/10
More of the usual, heavy bass, deep voice. This song had a bit of potential until Carti started repeatedly rapping: “Flash out, oh my god, yeah, goon.” Definitely makes the song hard to take seriously. Kendrick also delivers the worst intro in rap history, singing: “I need beep beep beep beep extraterrestrial Carti,” as well as other similar nonsense. The production is hard carries.
Song #6: PHILLY (with Travis Scott)
Rating: 8/10
PHILLY is a really simple song, but done very well. It has great production, a catchy chorus delivered by Travis Scott, good flow from both Carti and Travis, and on point vibes. While it isn’t particularly unique stylistically, it is still very solid, especially compared to the dubious songs before it.
Song #7: RADAR
Rating 7/10
Radar is another song that had good potential, since the beat was made by Metro Boomin. Carti’s verses fell a little short in my opinion, though the song is still decent.
Song #8: RATHER LIE (with The Weeknd)
Rating: 10/10
The Weeknd starts this song with SUCH a catchy chorus. Then Carti delivers the first verse, not forcing a deep or raspy voice, just rapping normally, on the most angelic beat of the album. It feels natural, like Carti’s earlier songs in the late 2010’s. On his second verse, Carti does a lot of voice switching, going from normal to deep and back. On paper it sounds a little weird, but trust me it works. The Weeknd closes off the song with the same great chorus. A flawless song in my opinion.
Song #9: ____ ____
Rating: 8/10
____ ____ is a great song with a really catchy, fast-paced beat. Carti uses his high pitched vocals throughout, creating a more “feel good,” or melodic vibe when compared to some of his other songs. I would have liked this song to be a little longer but overall good nonetheless.
Song #10: ________ (feat. Kendrick Lamar)
Rating: 9/10
This song is mostly a strict upgrade to Song #9. It has similar high-paced hi hats and snare, creating another fast yet laid-back beat. Carti also uses his high voice on this track as well. However, the addition of Kendrick to the track adds variety to the vocals and an entirely new energy to the song. Great feature, especially considering what happened with MOJO JOJO.
Song #11: TOXIC (feat. Skepta)
Rating: 9/10
Carti goes back to his usual, strong bass, deep vocals on this track. However, the song comes together very nicely. Carti has a great chorus and verse throughout the song, giving the listeners something to really enjoy. Skepta’s feature is also a welcome addition to the song, where he delivers great bars while also having a discernible voice (unlike Carti), which was good too.
Song #12: MUNYUN
Rating: 6/10
MUNYUN is a really forgettable song. Carti does nothing special with his voice or flow, while the beat is nothing special either. Granted, the chorus is pretty decent. When you compare MUNYUN to other tracks on this album, there’s really no reason to choose it over other, better songs.
Song #13: CRANK
Rating: 6/10
Another somewhat unremarkable song, though still pretty solid. Carti definitely drops some bars, but nothing crazy.
Song #14: _____ ___ ____ (feat. Future, Travis Scott)
Rating: 10/10
Carti really assembled the avengers on this one getting Future and Travis. Everything about this song is amazing, from the chorus delivered by Future, to the verses from Carti and Travis. Honestly the whole song is jam-packed with energy, from the beat made by Wheezy (fat bass, hi hats, you know the drill) to the lively adlibs and electric guitar that picks up in the back half of the song.
Song #15: GOOD CREDIT (feat. Kendrick Lamar)
Rating: 9/10
Carti again delivers the deep vocals on a rager beat that is so common in MUSIC. Yes it is well executed. Kendrick really brings the song together with some great verses. Yes this song has the infamous “Carti my evil twin” line, but the song is very strong if you look past it.
Song #16: I SEEEEEE YOU BABY BOI
Rating: 8/10
This song's beat is genuinely angelic. I’m running out of stuff to say though, good flow, good bars, blah blah blah. Moving on.
Song #17: WAKE UP F1LTHY (with Travis Scott)
Rating: 9/10
WAKE UP F1LTHY has the best bars on MUSIC, no doubt. The song is complete with tons of flow switches from both Travis and Carti, making the song feel interesting throughout the entire listen. The beat on this song is absolutely on point too, really capturing the “Opium” feeling.
Song #18: JUMPIN (feat. Lil Uzi Vert)
Rating: 7/10
At 90 seconds in length, this song feels more like an interlude than anything else, though I’m still a pretty big fan of it. It does a good job of teasing a full Uzi feature later in MUSIC.
Song #19: TRIM (with Future)
Rating: 8/10
If you’re a future fan, this song could definitely be a 9 or even 10 out of 10. To me, the beat and Future’s part on the song feels really generic, which brings it down. The song sounds good for sure though, and still it is decently interesting with really intense adlibs and a nice keyboard playing in certain sections.
Song #20: _______ ____
Rating: 9/10
This is THE rager song from MUSIC. Jarring bass and loud electric guitars really bring this song to life. Carti delivers raspy, wild vocals on the beat, making the song even more energetic. Honestly this song is a perfect mix between metal and hip-hop, done excellently.
Song #21: WE NEED ALL DA VIBES (feat. Young Thug, Ty Dolla $ign)
Rating: 9/10
Very similar to Song #9 and Song #10, this song features a catchy fast paced beat that still feels pretty laid-back. Young Thug does a great job with the song’s chorus, which matches the beat perfectly and is pretty catchy too. Ty delivers different flow and vocals, to WE NEED ALL DA VIBES, making him a good addition. To me this feels like a great summer song.
Song #22: OLYMPIAN
Rating: 8/10, 10/10 (glaze rating)
This song felt pretty average among the other tracks on MUSIC. However, I’ve been on reels recently and people say this song is the best on the album, which would make it a 10/10. I don’t really see the vision though.
Song #23: ___ ____
Rating: 7/10
This the type of song to give you a stroke. The beat is really sporadic, not sure how else to put it. The song is also filled with a ton of sound effects, from producer tags to gunshot sounds. You can find beauty in the chaos to be honest, so it's not that bad.
Song #24: TWIN TRIM (with Lil Uzi Vert)
Rating: 8/10
Carti doesn’t even sing in this song, it's just straight Uzi. The beat is normal, characterized by catchy synth waves in the background. Fortunately this song showcases the return of prime Uzi, which is great to see since his last album (Eternal Atake 2) was trash.
Song #25: LIKE WHEEZY
Rating: 9/10
Another banger, featuring an upbeat beat, with a choir (Not sure tbh) harmonizing in the background. Great great flow throughout the song too.
Song #26: DIS 1 GOT IT
Rating: 6/10
This is a pretty boring song, basically sounds the exact same from start to finish. It also has a piano in the background, but it plays the same notes over and over, which gets a little annoying. You can still bump your head to it though, not a horrid song at all.
Song #27: WALK
Rating: 6/10
Just another meh song, nothing special about it. Listenable but that's about it.
Song #28: HBA
Rating: 9/10
The final YouTube song on MUSIC, HBA has fantastic production, vocals, instrumentals, bars, and flow switches. This is Carti doing what he does best, creating his signature anarchic feel, captured in so many other songs.
Song #29: OVERLY
Rating: 5/10
Mid.
Song #30: SOUTH ATLANTA BABY
Rating: 7/10
Definitely a sleeper, this song has a really nice chorus in the background, and a really good beat (as so many of MUSIC’s songs do). Falls short of some other projects on this album but definitely has its place.
FINAL RATING: 8/10
While many people are quick to say that MUSIC is a mediocre album, I believe that it is a really solid piece of work. Playboi Carti is known for making unconventional music that is difficult to approach, though the more you listen to MUSIC, the more you’ll enjoy it. Overall, MUSIC has its highs and lows, with a ton of great tracks, but also a lot of forgettable ones. Where it shines the most is the fact it really does have music for everyone, from moshers to everyday people. If you haven’t listened to the album, definitely check out the songs I’ve rated the highest, all of them are worth a listen.
