If you’re a grade 10 student, you may be a little apprehensive about the academic challenges that lie ahead in the new school year, one being the personal project. However, there’s no need to fret, as here are some crucial tips that will help ensure you a stress-free and successful personal project.
Firstly, it is imperative to commence working on your project early. Doing so will allow you to make progress before you get bombarded with school assignments and tests. Many of my peers, including myself, greatly overlooked the amount of time and dedication required, leading to profound stress during the last week before the due date as we found ourselves scrambling to put together our product. To avoid tumbling down the same pitfall, you should adhere to the project timeline.
Secondly, it is just as essential to record your work along the way. Succumbing to your laziness and not logging your work will only intensify the burden upon your shoulders when writing your final report. I discovered that, regrettably, improper documentation of their project ultimately impelled many of my peers to concoct a story or experience in their report, something you would not want to do, as it mars your project’s authenticity.
Lastly, never hesitate to reach out for guidance. There certainly isn’t a dearth of people who are willing to assist you in your project — teachers, advisors, IB coordinators, and experienced students are incredible resources that can help with resolving any obstacles that arise. Discussing your project with your peers is an excellent way to hear some fresh ideas and perspectives; even if they lack the expertise to support you, they will help direct you to others who can.
Remember, the personal project is not a mere check on your path to the IB MYP certificate. It is a fantastic opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery, and a chance for you to delve deeper and foster your skills in your realm. Wish you the best of luck on your personal project journey!
