Weekly Cancellation: Procrastination
From your Stand Coordinators.
One month into the school year, the enemy of all healthy work habits has begun to creep up on all of us. While procrastinating is a natural part of every busy student’s life, nearly impossible to cancel out, it's important to keep this habit to a minimum. Here are three helpful ways to cancel procrastination this school year!
1. SLEEP!
Sleep is the age-old solution to almost all of your well-being related problems, and procrastination is no exception. Getting at least eight hours of sleep each night is critical to keeping your focus on a daily basis, and not draining your energy before the day even starts! Getting the rest that you deserve and require for your own health makes staying alert and on top of homework much easier.
2. Finding a spot to focus!
It is easy to get distracted at school after spending eight hours in classrooms and it is sometimes hard to work at home when your bed is just a few steps away. Test out a few nearby coffee shops or libraries that provide an environment where you can work efficiently for a couple of hours after school or on the weekends. Some popular choices include Starbucks, Boxcar Social, The Toronto Reference Library and Impact Restaurant, all of which are walking distance from The York School! Having a go-to spot with a relaxing, studious ambiance can trim off hours spent procrastinating at home or at school, and ensures that work will get done!
3. Organize at home!
Chaos, whether it is in your locker, your unorganized Google Drive or your backpack are small factors that contribute to procrastination. Arriving at home, at school or at your study spot, having no idea where that worksheet from class is will make putting off your work much more appealing, beginning the cycle of procrastination. Take time every couple of days, or at the end and beginning of the week to make sure that all of your assignments are where they belong, and that your school life is organized in a way that works for you.
