All-or-nothing thinking describes a “train of thought” that can occur when you come up to any kind of challenge, personal or academic, that allows room for only two options: success or failure.
Progress > PerfectionÂ
Putting ourselves in this “thinking trap” does not allow us to be free to learn from our experiences. We become locked in the fallacy of “the ideal” and “the perfect.” Philosophically and actually these are unattainable. Therefore, if we only accept perfection then we are doomed to failure.Â
Rather, then, it is better to strive for progress. Recognizing all of the little moments of growth and as well as welcoming mistakes and setbacks are THE MOST important part of our growth and our learning.Â
If we invest in learning how to recognize and reward ourselves for progress > perfection then we allow ourselves the freedom to be our most perfectly IMPERFECT selves.Â
