Getting Up-to-Date on Spirit Week Events
By Jade Hauber
Hey, York! As you know, spirit week is this last week before school, which student leadership and spirit teams have packed with exciting events and activities. So in case you’ve missed the schedules or just want some hints about what’s to come, here’s your spirit week summary on the Stand.
Every day has a new casual theme to showcase your unique spirit and style. Monday’s theme is “winter sports,” and I for one am looking forward to seeing everyone’s outfits and athletic wear. There will be Bingo games at lunch with prizes for anyone who wants to participate. At the same time, a holiday movie will be playing.
The movie will continue at lunch on Tuesday, when you can stop in the drama room during lunch and recess to take part in Chanukkah party planned by the Jewish Cultural Club (and yes, there will be latkes!). Tuesday’s casual day theme is “après-ski.” For those of you who, like me, hadn’t heard of this creative idea until this week, it’s stylish but comfortable winter clothing typically put on after skiing.
On Wednesday, be sure to wear your house colours for our house assembly and house challenge. This is a great chance to rack up some final house points before winter break. Here’s a quick reminder of your house locations: Fire in the drama room, Air in the fitness centre, Water in the caf and Earth in the library. Good luck! And of course, the holiday movie will continue.
Thursday is our last day before a two-week-long vacation that I’m sure many students, teachers and staff will appreciate. The movie will finish at lunch, along with a holiday cookie decorating station. The casual day theme is “ugly sweater.”
I hope this summary helps you get in the holiday “spirit!” Thanks for reading and have an awesome break!
