Hey York! It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for- the announcement of the winners of the Stand’s Winter Creative Writing Contest! We received plenty of great submissions from across the school about what the holiday season means to them. While all of the stories we received were great, we have narrowed down the submissions to our top three picks. Without further ado, here are the winners for the Winter Creative Writing Contest:
Honourable mention - Chase Eihav, Grade 1
For our honourable mention, here’s “A Fairy Tradition,” an absolutely adorable story by Grade 1 student Chase Eihav! We love the creativity- and the fun colours of the text. Good work!
3rd place - Kaleigh Metser, Grade 8
In third place, we have Kaleigh Metser’s “A Winter Adventure!” This story potently depicts a journey through a whole day and manages to capture the wonder of experiencing winter for the first time. Thanks for sharing this touching story, Kaleigh!
2nd place - Hayden Laurie, Grade 8
Coming in second, an amazing narrative by Hayden Laurie! The framing device of the fall day gives the story an extra dimension that portrays the strong emotional relationship many of us have with the winter season. Great effort, Hayden, and a great story!
1st place - Layla Soloway, Grade 7
Finally, in first place we have “Winter Story” by Layla Soloway! This tale showcases excellent use of imagery; it evokes the sensory aspects of the snowy season so palpably that you can almost feel the snow under your mitted hands as you read. This is incredible work, Layla- congratulations!
