Next week, the Middle and Senior School Community Service Committee is hosting this year’s Service As Action Week: 3 Chosen Causes, 1 Caring Community. Students from grades 8-12 have chosen to support 3 different organizations that they were passionate about.
The Canadian Red Cross - Humanitarian support for the Ukraine
Holland Bloorview -Toronto’s leading children’s rehabilitation hospital
Friends of Ruby - a LGBTQI2S youth support centre.
The goal is to raise awareness and educate our community about the how these 3 organizations provide services to people who are facing discrimination and injustice in today’s society. There will be several activities happening throughout the week to help educate our community on each cause and organization.
The activities include:
Making friendship bracelets for Friends of Ruby
A Sunflower Art Display in support of the Ukraine
Google Form Scavenger hunt to learn about Holland Bloorview’s “Dear Everybody” campaign to tackle Ableism.
Breakfast Bonanza Bake Sale (All proceeds will be split evenly between the organizations)
Karaoke for Kare event at lunch (The top 3 teachers with the most votes will perform)
Our Service As Action Assembly will take place Tuesday, May 17th from 10:10-10:50am. At 10:05 am, Senior School students should move to their designated assembly classrooms.
At the end of the assembly, you will have the opportunity to show how they care for those in need by engaging in an act of service with our Postcards of Care initiative.
