Do you need service hours?
Do you want to be creative and help others in our greater community?
Do you love crafts?
Well then we have the perfect opportunity for you! Introducing the new community service initiative: CRAFTS FOR CARE!!!
In partnership with Sending Sunshine and Positivity for Patients, you will have the ability to bring joy to those in need this holiday season.
From Monday the 13th to Friday the 17th, in the learning commons before school, during lunch and after school, you can participate in Crafts For Care by either making cards for the elderly or bracelets for cancer patients. Materials for both the cards and the bracelets will be provided.
Both of these initiatives are fun and easy ways to work on your service hours! Two cards or four bracelets are worth 1 service hour. For more information on both of these crafts, check out the links below:
Sending Sunshine’s mission statement is: “To connect seniors living in Canada with people from around the globe through the power of the written word, while promoting volunteerism among youth.”
They take cards made by individuals all around the country and send them to senior homes to spread happiness and kindness. Cards should include a hand drawn picture on the outside and a kind message on the interior (minimum of 3 sentences with an average of 15-20 words per sentence).
Here are some examples of cards other people have made, but even if you aren’t the most artistically talented, don’t worry! All non-offensive cards are welcome!
Please keep in mind that we are not making holiday cards! The messages should be inclusive of all, therefore non-denominational. More of the guidelines will be shared when you arrive.
Positivity for Patients’s mission statement is: “brighten the days of cancer patients and put a smile on their face.” They take bracelets made by individuals and give them to cancer patients to raise their spirits. Bracelets can be one of four designs, check them out below!
