STUDENT DISMISSAL FOR THE SOUNDING OF TAPS AT

MILITARY FUNERALS

The Clay County Board of Education has established a policy for the implementation of House Bill 2286, veteran's honors funeral assistant community service program:

Each year the Clay County High School Band Director will compile a list of eligible students who have been approved to sound Taps at military funerals.

The school principal will obtain parental consent for each student who chooses to participate.

Credit toward the school's community service or work based learning program will be granted for participation in the Taps program.

Students will not be counted absent by the classroom teacher or the school, while participating in the Taps program.

Notification of students must be made at least one day prior to participation.

According to WV Code 18-2E-8e(d), the board of education will not be held liable for supervising students who are participating in funerals.
