Materials/Textbook Selection Policy
In order to build a well balanced collection of materials appropriate to the objectives of schools, careful consideration should be given to the selection of materials.
Media specialists, classroom teachers, and principals should adhere to the following guidelines for the selection of materials.
The materials should support, supplement, and extend learning outcomes delineated in the Clay County Schools program of study.
The selection of materials should be the shared responsibility of those using the materials and should include, when appropriate, students.
Qualitative standards should be maintained through careful evaluation of materials.
Materials should be selected so that there is a balance in coverage of subjects, types of materials, and variety of content.
The collection should be reviewed as needed to determine its continued suitability.
Computer software and video productions should be previewed prior to purchase, if possible.
Print and non-print materials should be selected for their value to all individuals of the school. No books, or other materials, should be excluded from selection because of the nationality, the race, or the political or religious views of the author(s).
