Class Rank

(The purpose of this revision is not change the procedure that is currently being followed.  The purpose of this revision is to clarify the current policy that is being followed)

In the selection of the valedictorian, salutatorian, scripture, and prayer honor students, the following procedure shall be utilized:

The student with the highest GPA shall be the Valedictorian.  The student with the 2nd highest GPA shall be the Salutatorian.  The student with the 3rd highest GPA shall be the Scripture and the student with the 4th highest average will be the prayer.  When there is a tie in the computation of GPA, there may be more than one student occupying the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and/or 4th positions.  In the computation of GPA for the selection of honor students, the following unique exception shall apply.

·      When GPAs are above 4.0, due to weighted courses, and,

·      when student “X” takes at least the same number of weighted courses as student “Y”, and,

·      when student “X” takes more non-weighted courses than student “Y”, resulting in a lower GPA than student “Y”, even though student “X” had identical grades to student “Y”, plus one or more additional “A’s” in   non-weighted courses

When all three cases circumstances above are met, student “X” shall not be penalized for taking additional courses, if the student made “A’s” in those courses.  In this case, the additional “A’s” will be discounted (not counted) against Student “X” in the computation of GPA for the selection of honor students.  Under no circumstance, however, shall a grade less than “A” be discounted (not counted) in computing the GPA of honor students.
