1.     GENERAL

1.1  SCOPE  This policy defines the holidays during which Clay County Schools will be closed. 

1.2  AUTHORITY    School Laws of West Virginia, School Laws of West Virginia, 2-2-1, 2-2-2, 18A-5-2

1.3  FILING DATE                        July 2010

1.4  EFFECTIVE DATE    July 2010

            The Board of Education office will be closed on the days listed below and on such other days as the Board may                  direct.

            Independence Day                              General, Primary, or Special  Election Day

            Labor Day                                           West Virginia Day (June 20)

            Veterans Day                                      Memorial Day

            Thanksgiving Day                              Christmas Day                       

Martin Luther King’s birthday

            New Year’s Day

Also, any day appointed and set apart by the president or the governor as a holiday of special observance by the people of West Virginia

When any such holiday falls within the employment term, it shall be considered as a day of the employment term and the full-time school personnel shall receive his or her pay for same. When any of the above designated holidays, except a special election, falls on Saturday, the schools shall be closed on the preceding Friday; when any such falls on Sunday, the schools shall be closed on the following Monday.
