It was that it began as simply another ordinary day, until it wasn't.

A great, trembling shudder ran through the very fabric of the world. The sky, once bright with the usual warmth of the sun, darkened in an instant as if a shadow had fallen across all creation. The winds stilled, the trees ceased their whispers, and even the river's flow slowed to a murmur. From the heart of the enchanted land, a portal of incomprehensible magnitude tore open in the sky, its edges crackling with dark, forbidden energy. 

The victory celebration was then carried out, served with the prepared bodies of mermaids and mermen who had been broiled alive and prepared fresh from the waters of the Eastern Sea.
