NPC, the Djinn

There is a stone someday you may find.

Red as blood, a rare thing is the Opal of Fire.

Don’t be fooled by this beauty.

For a single breath or just a warm touch.

Is enough to wake what lies inside.

Hear me whisper this secret inside your mind,

The reason why this gem has such a shade

It’s only because many times has it been

Bathed in the sweet blood of innocents.

Right before you will stand the djinn.

“Your wishes” he says “will be satisfied”.

“So give in, tell me your secret desire”.

Go on, take a risk… And make a wish.

Devouring all hope in your heart.

He is the Wishmaster, he is despair,

Turning reality into a never ending nightmare.

Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.

He smells your fears and knows your dreams.

Your heart’s secrets are calling out to him.

Wherever you go, there he will be.

What’s before you is your deepest dread.

What you locked deep inside,

Your darkest temptation.

He will ensnare you with his illusions.

In the end, your only wish will be

That you were long ago dead.

Stories and fables are just masks and disguises,

Created by those who tried to wrap darkness with lies.

He is the Master of the wishes you dare not say.

Can you feel it yet? Your sanity’s slipping away.

“Whatever you wish for, it shall be granted”.

Your heart cries then, what’s to blame

In trying to get what you always craved for?

“A rare jewel or perhaps great fame?

Death of your enemy, sweet revenge.

Eternal beauty, maybe a lover’s heart?

Or more riches than you can spend?

A mansion filled with pieces of art?

All this is now within your reach

Just take a risk, make a wish.”

Blurring lines of what’s real, he defies all reason.

“Sweet child, just give in to your passions”.

But as he holds your beating heart in his paws,

He will pierce your soul with his claws.

Please, take heed of what I say.

Words are double edged blades.

Do you see, how your soul is the prize.

And death will not be the end?

Hear me, I’m always here.

At your side, I whisper.

Your craving for a heavenly bliss,

Is what will lead you to an abyss.

Still, a wish must be made.

Such is the rule of the game.

So go on, take a risk.

And make a wish.

Biography

According to Arab legend, God created the Djinns from black, smokeless fire 2000 years before the creation of Adam. All have great magic powers. They live in the Spaces between the Worlds. Their king is named Eblis. A summoned djinn might be bound to a gem, ring, lamp, or other object, forced to serve whomever used the item to summon it. King Solomon, greatest magician of the ancient Middle East, was served by djinns and imprisoned rebellious djinns in brass bottles that he threw into the sea.

Physical Appearance

The Djinn’s true form is that of a large, hideous, dark demon. As such he has large horns. His flesh is dark and solid as if carved from jet sweeps upwards on either side like frozen black flames, with sections that resembles heavy brown metal armor. His eyes are shadowed pits that glint with inhuman knowledge and unholy malice. His lips and jaw are swollen as if straining to cover a mouth that bristles with fangs.

In human form he usually wears the form of one Nathaniel Demarest. Demarest has a pleasant foreign, although unusual, appearance with dark hair. Being the size of an ordinary man, wearing fine clothes and using elegant manners usually results in positive interactions with human beings. The term ’a voice like the sweetest silk‘  could be used to describe the Djinn’s devious manners.

The only distinguishing part of the Demarest appearance is the fact that, when feeling agitated, he constantly walks around with a bad, bad grin regardless of circumstance (this would be a constant case in a jail, which is filled with hundreds of potential wishees).

Personality

The Djinn is a sadistic, manipulative and prideful creature who will stop at anything in order to free his fellow Djinn so that they can rule over the world and use their seemingly infinite power however they chose. The Djinn has no problem admitting he's evil, in fact he seems to be rather proud of this. When in disguise as a human he often acts somewhat friendly and or polite in an attempt to trick others into making wishes so he can collect their souls. Another fact is despite being a master manipulator and fairly intelligent his own downfall is due to both his pride and the fact instead of just granting wishes the way the user wants so he can unleash his race, he always twists them to the point that his master hardly if ever wanted to use all three wishes.

He occasionally takes on the form of human beings, and although very cunning and clever the Djinn is too eager to play any assumed role carefully; he’ll eventually reveal his true form after a while just for effect. The Djinn will use extremely nice wording to trick humans into wishes that harm themselves or others. He will often use loved ones to strike at humans and force them make wishes in order to save them.

Handling The Djinn

The Djinn is a member of a nihilistic and diabolic race. His greatest personal desire is to unleash the entire Djinn race upon the Earth so that they can ravage it together. Unfortunately, due to his nature, he reluctantly has to grant three wishes to the individual who first freed him from his captivity, in order to get that. Additionally, he’s bound to use most of his powers for granting the wishes of others, until he’s been freed by granting his freer their third wish.

He’ll go to any lengths to receive such wishes, particularly when said person knows what will happen upon the granting of the third wish, namely that the Earth shall be destroyed. Although the Djinn cannot, due to cosmic laws, himself directly attack a human being he usually finds a way to trick someone into wishing something that indeed can attack a human being. The Djinn itself lives on wishes and grants one wish, and one only, to whomever requests him of said wish. As payment the Djinn will almost always take the wishee’s soul in return and absorb it into himself.

Never ask the Djinn for a party… since that really unleashes his powers – he’ll be able to kill anyone in the assembly in any atrocious way, since a true bloodbath is equal to the mind of the Djinn. A favorite tactic at such occurrences is to animate objects such as statues, paintings etc.The more gruesome the result, the better.

Common sneaky questions would include: “Do you wish that you hadn’t seen this horrible thing?” (answering yes to this question usually results in the wishee losing his eyes or even being directly killed by the Djinn since the wish is fullfilled that way also). Once to a gatekeeper he asked: “Would you like to break out?”(refering to his work; when the poor gatekeeper muttered yes the Djinn created a huge glassbox filled with water and teleported the man inside this cube along being bound in chains. The Djinn’s amused comment was: “Houdini did it in 30 seconds”).

Answering yes to “Would you like to remain young forever” would result in the Djinn changing the subject into a lifeless statue. Since the Djinn is limited to fullfilling wishes he’ll keep talking as much as possible in order to trick wishes, who’ll then be horribly corrupted, from people.

Powers and Abilities

He’s completely indestructible and unkillable and wields mightily powerful magics; the Djinn is naturally an eternal being.

Almost all magics have to be used for fulfilling the wishes of others, as long as the Djinn is not truly free, except certain effect: assuming a human guise (including taking other people’s appearances as long as he has acquired their entire facial skin), travel between dimensions (he cannot summon other Djinns using this method, but can transport humans), creating mild illusions, using mild telekinetic effects, teleporting huge distances and regenerate any harm done to him or the wishee.

Furthermore, the Djinn is very cunning, both in the ways of magic and in the power of words. He’d access to certain spells that will summon the rest of the Djinn race if certain conditions are met (see Rituals for this).

The Stone of the Secret Fire

From the outside, the stone of the Secret Fire appears to be nothing more than a blood-red ruby cut into the shape of a dodecahedron one inch in diameter. Analyst shows that it is a uniquely faceted fire opal gemstone.

The interior is a terrible place. At the center of it all is a throne room, a large shadowed chamber with a concave roof that belies down in curved walls to meet the floor. Large supporting struts as reminiscent of bone as they are of metal radiate down the walls from the center of the domed ceiling.
