Location, Monuments

Local monuments are symbols of pride and distinction for the inhabitants of a city. The most famous monuments draw tourists from all around the world and can generate important revenue for the city. Most monuments have a flourishing tourist trade, with gift shops, restaurants, and the attending businesses that support the monument and its visitors. Monuments can be freestanding structures or buildings that are separate from the city (as in the case of the Statue of Liberty in New York to the Washington Monument) or an integral part of it (such as the Golden Gate Bridge). Either way, they dominate and accent the skyline of the city.
