Why Antibiotics Don’t Ruin Beef

By: Bella Miles

Giving cows antibiotics doesn't ruin the meat. It is essential for the health and happiness of the cows. Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections that can cause serious harm to animals. By administering antibiotics to sick cows, farmers can help prevent the expansion of disease, protect the health of the herd, and ensure that the cows are healthy and happy.

When giving antibiotics you have to read the bottle for the directions and the withdrawal date. If you don't pay attention to the withdrawal date and slaughter the cow within the withdrawal date there will be a residue left on the meat, if you sell that meat you can't slaughter any more cattle by state law. A lot of students agree with this statement, according to the 8th grader Allura Green “I think that if you follow the directions of the antibiotics and pay attention to the withdrawal date the meat will be perfectly fine.”

When producers are using antibiotics they are very careful with the withdrawal date so they can make a profit from selling their beef. Adding to that farmers are required by law to follow strict guidelines when it comes to the use of antibiotics in animals intended for human consumption. A lot of students are farmers too and they agree with this statement about cattle producers, according to Beau Owens “I think that if farmers pay attention to the withdrawal date they won't have a problem with the meat and they will still be able to sell their meat without any problems.”

In conclusion, giving cows antibiotics doesn't affect their meat in a bad way as long as you pay attention to the withdrawal date so you can slaughter the cow without any problems and you will be able to continue slaughtering and selling your cattle.
