A photo from google of a bunch of cute pumpkins that were carved.
If you walk around your neighborhood in October or even September you would see that some houses have pumpkins with faces, shapes, drawings, or characters. Most families always go to a pumpkin patch or the store to get pumpkins for them to carve. Normally if you look around you could also see some carved ones at stores.
It's pretty easy to carve pumpkins. You cut a hole in the top, scoop out all the seeds inside, (some people even cook the seeds.) Then you can either print a piece of paper with a drawing or design you want to do, then you tape it on your pumpkin. Then you cut it out and now you have a carved pumpkin.
Local mom reports, “I love carving pumpkins with my kids but it does get very messy and slimy.” Lilly Mcclure states, "I love carving pumpkins because it's really fun to do it with friends." Even if you don't like dealing with all the slimy stuff and having a mess, some people even paint the pumpkins and decorate them without cutting them. You can really do anything when you have the Halloween spirit.
Carving pumpkins started in the 19th century which was created before Halloween was. They were first used as lanterns and then were used for warding off evil spirits. Some people thought it was witchcraft because they would use any vegetables and carve a creepy face in it and light it.
This is a photo found from google of someone carving a simple pumpkin.
