High School Boys Varsity Baksetball

By: Hailey Hendershot

Boys basketball is taking off their season with a bang, they started their season on November 17th, 2023, and they are left with two tournaments left of the regular season.  The varsity team is doing very well. As of February 9th, 2024, they have an eye-opening 21-0 record leaving them ranked first in the state.

Basketball games are always more entertaining when the adrenaline in the players is high and everyone is ready to hustle. Sawyer Carver states “Watching them has been very fun and their games are intense.” He loves watching the varsity team play, especially when the games get heated with close scores.

Cutter Rayside “The game against Palisade was my favorite game to watch, the game was close and I gotta watch my friends from Palisade play.” He loved seeing his friends from other schools and the close game had him on his toes. The boys' varsity team has their way of getting the crowd wild with all the yelling, cheering, and jumping for their favorite players.

The team has key players such as Big Dog Jhett Wells and Daniel Thomason carry the team in stats. Although, they aren't the only star players worth watching. All the players have led the team to the new school record for the longest winning streak, which was 16-0. The farther the boys get into their season the more the seats fill up to watch the basketball team grind on the court.

The packed games are most of Fruita's favorite events in the school year.  Don't miss out on the highly athletic and fast team's enjoyable games. Their next game is against Montrose on February 6th in Montrose. Their next home game on school turf is February 17th against Durango. We hope to see you there!
