The Dangers of Halloween Candy

By: Marley Vaughn

Are you going trick or treating this year? If so, be aware of these hazards.  Here are some of the  dangers that could be found in your candy on halloween. Fentanyl. Fentanyl is a drug that looks like candy and many people use it to kill kids by giving it to them on halloween. People use it because you can't tell if it's candy or it's a drug. The tiniest bit of fentanyl can kill anyone so quickly.  Fentanyl can kill someone in 2 minutes or less.

Another reason for why you should check your kids candy is because now people are putting razor blades in children's Halloween treats. This is not as common because razor blades are more noticeable in candy.

Next up is Crystal Meth. Crystal Meth is put in a lot of Halloween candy because it's easier to hide just like Fentanyl. It's facile because people  wouldn't suspect it in their candy. Crystal Meth is crystally and is blue. Some kids may mistake crystal meth as  pop rocks and candy so they could be easily fooled.Emma Weathers said she would not believe that if people were putting drugs into candy  because people aren't going to spend money and buy drugs just to give them to kids. This is a good point because people wouldn't want to waste their  time or money. On the other hand Brianna Merrell says she would believe it  because it has been happening a lot recently and she has always tried to check her candy in case their are drugs in her candy.

Lastly there are rusty nails. Rusty nails have been put in many caramel  apples because it can affect people more when biting down into the apple.”News reported one family  found rusty nails and staples in their children's candy, including chocolate bars, caramels, and gum”.

Overall it is fun to trick or treat but you should be vigilant with your candy before you get drugged. Also check your candy and make sure the neighborhood you're trick or treating in is safe and you and your parents trust it. These are just things that have been on the news recently but they aren't too likely to happen just because someone isn't going to waste time and money.
