The volleyball team has been putting in the work. The girls have been attending open gyms every Monday and Thursday night. As they start playing together and building bonds with each other, They've decided to attempt to grow the Fruita volleyball family to the boys. The gym is open to the boys to come and play on the same days the girls play. In hope of the girls and boys adapting to playing with each other.
Mike Lans states “I look forward to having the boys, I'm hoping it's a success.” Mike is the head coach for the girls volleyball team, and will be helping to coach the boys. Boys volleyball has small factors that are different. The team has hopes that this will help grow the volleyball cumminuity at Fruita Monument.
The changes that will be added to the volleyball team is going to be good for the program, and the coaches for a new insight of what may be helpful towards the girls team. Whether it comes from learning new drills, or helping raise money for the teams. The support girls have given the coaching staff towards this attempt have been tremendous.
Upcoming senior Savannah Oney says “I hope that this is a good change, I’m excited to share the space, and maybe help grow my love of the sport to other players. The volleyball team is very well bonded and closer with each other. We are always willing to grow our family” Savannah loves the sport, and intends to share her love of the competitive sport to others in the school.
Open gyms are held in the main gym at the high school, and are on mondays and thursdays. On Mondays 6-8 and Thursdays 4-6. For further information girls that are on the team are around the school. They hope greatly to see new players there.
