The Process of the Yearbook
By: Aspen Bosworth
The yearbook is something that everyone looks forward to getting at the end of the year. The yearbook is a great way to look back at old memories, old friends, and remember the familiar faces that you once knew. The yearbook holds lots of information to update the soon-to-be freshman and sophomores but how is the yearbook made? Who makes it?
Bayla Hawley a 9th grader part of the yearbook class, explains some of the steps to produce the yearbook. She reports “The first steps to beginning the yearbook is working together to create them. We look at what is trending, what’s going on with the school year, etc.” The yearbook is a class that pulls people together to make everyone use their ideas and become part of a community. Bayla says, “I think my favorite part about it is being able to use my imagination” The yearbook class gives lots of freedom to use imagination to create the best yearbook for every student buying it. There are still so many steps to even finishing the yearbook, Bayla Hawley gives the steps to fishing the yearbook, “The final steps to completing a page is printing what we have done, having someone edit any mistakes, refining them, and then printing again to make sure it's correct. This process could repeat three times. It's just until we perfect it.” The yearbook makes sure to do all the right steps to ensure that it’s the best version it can be.
What about interviews and quotes? How does everyone get photos for the yearbook? Well, Kyah Schoenfeld tells us how those steps accrue. “To interview someone we have to use the book with all of the people's schedules and figure out what class they are in, we also have to pick what questions we want to talk about based on what page we are assigned. We choose the people based on how many times they are already in the yearbook and if they are in other things such as sports." The yearbook has to be perfect to then print at the end of the year, which includes having the perfect pictures to correlate with each topic. Kyah reports how pictures are collected “Getting all the pictures involves what our page is about, what we want the photos to be or look like, and who we want to be in it” The yearbook takes a lot of effort, and teamwork to produce, but once it's done it satisfies everyone at the end of the year.
The yearbook costs $30 up until January 1st, but after that date, they can be bought for $35. The yearbook will be handed out near the last day of school so that everyone can sign yearbooks and stay connected over the summer.
