School vandalism has become a big problem at Fruita 8/9. There have been incidents of vandalism throughout the school year. For example, the sink and mirror in the boy’s bathroom have recently been vandalized. They were broken and taken off the wall.
According to the Urban Institute, people vandalize because of, “a variety of reasons including: to convey a message, to express frustration, to stake revenge, to make money, or as part of a game.” The vandalism at this school needs to be stopped.
There have been two instances of vandalism at the school this year. School counselor Mrs. Spore reports that vandalism, “creates extra work for everyone,”. She also says that if someone is caught vandalizing, there would be, “legal consequences,”.
We can all work together to prevent vandalism. Assistant principal Mr. Toovey says that we can prevent vandalism by, “...going to class on time and staying out of the school bathrooms,”. This will help things not get broken and it will help the school out.
Vandalism is not good and it needs to be stopped so staying out of the bathrooms and not being late to class will definitely help with making sure things don't get broken. It is a huge problem, the damages being done to the school and how much it is costing.
