When you walk out of the classroom and the bell has already rung, how many times have you seen a kid walk out, roll their eyes, and possibly flip the teacher off and then leave the class complaining about something that happened to them? Or something that the teacher said? When you see that, try to think about what the teachers are feeling. for instance if the teacher saw that or heard that or knew what was going on how do you think that teacher would feel?
Typically when I see students disrespecting their teachers, it's usually the students that don't like that class or just don't do as well as other kids in school. This may be because of the teacher themselves or maybe it’s just a subject that most students just don’t like. Personally, I have multiple opinions on students treating teachers badly. I believe that it just depends on the type of teacher.
I believe that sometimes it does have to do with the types of relationships that you build with your teachers; however, I also believe that sometimes the relationship doesn't matter. When interviewed, Mr. Johnson, a teacher at Fruita 8/9, said, “ It's hard for me to go through a week without having at least four to five interactions that are less than respectful. but typically those students are going through a rough time. I think it all has to do with the kind of demeanor and personality traits that that student and teacher have in common.”
I believe that respect towards teachers is important, however, I think that it depends on the respect that you get from the teacher. If you get disrespected by the teacher then you will disrespect the teacher back. If you are treated nicely by the teacher then you will be nice to the teacher. Anaya Ketchum, an 8th grader at Fruita 8/9 said, “If I had my favorite teacher and least favorite teacher in a room together I would treat them differently because my least favorite teacher is rude to me and my favorite teacher is nice to me.” I agree with her that I would treat my least favorite and favorite teachers differently because one is nice to me and the other is rude.
