Girls Golf is a spring sport at the Fruita 8/9, practice tryouts were on February 26, 2024, coached by Stephanie Ohara. Tryouts are held for three days without cuts. Golf has a great group of supportive girls on the freshmen team. Golf contains lots of hard work and dedication, with laughter and fun.
Many sports, especially golf, can be a fun and inclusive sport. Kennedy England, a 9th grader here at the Fruita 8/9, who is trying out for the girl's golf freshman team says, “My favorite thing is probably the people, they are always nice and it's comforting knowing that they will support me.” Kennedy expresses that the team, already a part of golf, is a great group of girls.
With golf being an outside sport it can be very relaxing to be outside and be with friends and even make new ones. Kennedy says “I thought it would be really fun, and it would help distract me from the stress of school.” Kennedy says she started golf, “A few years ago when I got my clubs for my birthday. My family really enjoys playing, so they thought I would enjoy it too.”
Many people have their opinions on golf but, Addison Cutshall, a 9th grader who is joining the golf team, reports, “I chose it because it's super fun to play and I wanted something to do. I started like a year ago,” saying her favorite thing about golf is, “just being outside with friends”. Addi and Kennedy both express their feelings about golf and how entertaining it is to be with friends outside.
The girl's golf tournaments are held at the Adobe Creek National Golf Course, in Fruita CO where they will compete with many other teams to see who's the best.
