Fruita 8/9 has recently made lots of new changes to the school. One of them being the new bathroom pass rule. The staff at Fruita 8/9 made a new rule that we can only go to the bathroom two times in the class per quarter. This could cause lots of problems because there are so many studies about what can happen if you are unable to go to the bathroom. These studies have been known to show that it can be unhealthy not to use the restroom when you feel the need to.
Lots of people and students have opinions on this new rule. One Freshman at Fruita 8/9 Mesa Dickerson says, “I think that we should all be able to go to the bathroom when we need it. No one should be able to tell you whether or not you can do what you need to do.” In my opinion, this is true because I do not understand why someone should be able to tell you what you can and can't do when it comes to personal needs.
Another freshman at the 8/9 Nate Wilkinson says, “These bathroom pass rules are stupid, I should be able to go to the bathroom when I need to, no one should be able to tell me when I can or can’t go to the bathroom.” This is again true because in my opinion if you need to do something to take care of yourself you should be able to do that.
Some teachers would agree with the opinion of students, Mrs.LaCount says, “Students should be able to take care of what they need to when they need to do it. Students are more likely to focus and be more relaxed in class if they have taken care of what they need to do.” I agree with this statement because I focus so much better when I have taken care of everything and don't have to worry about so many things.
In my opinion, many of these changes have made the students more angry than anything else. This rule in particular has been challenging to navigate especially for students. Students have been trying to convince the teachers to at least listen to us as students. I think if everyone joins in we can get these to go away as a group.
