During Mid December 2022, Fruita Middle School had announced to the district that the school would be merging with the 8 and 9. That means 6-8 will be in the 8/9 and 9-12 will be in the Fruita High School.
Now in the beginning of August, 2023, Teachers have mentioned to their students that it has finally been announced that in the years 2024 or 2025, the two schools will have a 50/50 chance that they will finally be merged into one.
“It's not the end of the world if the schools do merge. Then we would be in an actual middle school and highschool, so it's not hard to explain to people that we are the 8/9.” reported Space Simm, a student at the Fruita 8/9. We would also be a normal district that doesn't have a 8/9 anymore. But then again, It's very cool that we are the only district that has this.
“My perspective is that I guess it would be good, but it would take our money out of our pockets, and they would take money from the community's taxes due to new buildings.” reported Rob Lehmann, a parent of a student in D51. It seems like he really thinks it's a good idea for this to happen. However he also thinks this is also a bad idea due to taxes.
All this being considered were still left with these questions: When will this happen? Where will they build it? Do they actually need more buildings for the students? We will find out next time.
