Homework has been a part of the school system for a long time, but its impact has caused arguments among students, parents, and teachers. I believe along with many other students that homework sucks the joy out of learning and it causes stress because of how much teachers give us when we don’t have time, and burnout among most of the students at the 8/9.
First off, homework often leads to stress and anxiety, students are juggling so much already and teachers just add more to it. There is so much pressure to turn in the assignment on time, while also trying to focus on extracurricular activities and socials. After an interview with Olivia Fay, a Freshman, she says “ Homework gets in my way of sports and it makes it hard to find time to do my homework” This just proves that homework can be stressful in many students' lives, making them not enjoy learning and finding something they enjoy doing
After interviewing another Freshman at the Fruita 8/9, Kinzlee Thompson, says “Homework ruins learning and gets in the way of family and friends.” I think this quote shows how students feel about homework and just backs up the previous quote about getting in the way of life outside of school.
I feel like teachers believe their students don’t have lives outside of school and they think we have time to do all the notes and paperwork when we barely have enough time to sleep. I understand that if the student doesn’t do the work assigned in class, they might have to make it up later, but I disagree with assigning homework designed to be done at home.
