Powder Puff football has been a tradition amongst Fruita 8/ 9 for many years. The event occurs for homecoming week to produce an awesome game before the bonfire. The games are between the freshman and sophomore.
The rules of Powder puff football follow the basic guidelines of flag football. There are 11 players on each team. For tackling in order for the ball to become a “dead ball” which means it is no longer playable. The opposing player has to take the flag without actually tackling them or it can be called an aggressive tackling. The score pretty much works the same as a touchdown counts as six points, a safety point as two, and extra point as two.
Now here are some quotes from fellow students, coaches, and players.
“Powderpuff football is sexist to girls because it makes a joke out of girls and football,”.Player, Maya. Some people say it's sexist due to the fact they make it easier ,rules aren't as strict and people don't show up to the games as much.
“It's very cool and reasonable for girls so they don't have to get hurt,” Student Brycen Crabb says.
And some people think it's very fair and encourage it as well as thinking it should be all year and more hyped. After hearing both sides of here's some insight from coach
“Powderpuff football has been a Homecoming radiation for a very very long time. It's always a fun and well attended event that involves a lot of our students. After the games are finished, homecoming royalty is announced and the bonfire is lit. The Fruita bonfire is quite legendary and always HUGE!” Coach, Julie Blevins stated.
Ending on that I think we can all agree that powderpuff football is a big part of our tradition and will continue to be. If you are interested in powderpuff football its for 9th graders during homecoming week.
