On Saturday February 10th the highschool boys wrestling team of Fruita will be having a regional tournament in Parker Colorado at the Legend highschool. The regional tournament is to qualify for state. There are 3 freshman wrestlers on the varsity team who will compete in the regional tournament. The wrestlers will have to place top 4 in the tournament or they will not make it to state. Some of the 9th grade wrestlers were interviewed to see how they felt about the upcoming regional tournament.
Many wrestlers in Fruita have had problems with getting nervous in the past. Kel Unirein, a freshman wrestler whose weight class is 106 pounds on varsity said “I am really excited to wrestle but I am also very nervous as I have never wrestled at the regional tournament and if I dont place in the top four then my season is over.” After interviewing kel you could see he is excited but also nervous which is not surprising as he is a freshman and this is his first time at regionals. Kel got 1st in their most recent tournament.
The Fruita wrestling team works hard on being loose and prepared for matches.Gage Chewleski, also a freshman wrestler whose weight class is 120 pounds on varsity, said “I am not nervous at all. I don't really ever get nervous so I think of it as just another tournament.” After interviewing Gage you can see he is a very confident freshman and is ready to go and wrestle. As Gage recently got 3rd in their most recent tournament.
This was two wrestlers that are on varsity as freshmen, the other one is Jace Mitushima who is the 132 pounder for the FMHs wrestling team. If one is able to go it will cost between $5-10 to enter the gym there will also be concessions. If you want to support the FMHs wrestling team then go and watch at the Legend highschool Saturday february 10th.
