Crocs have become a staple in youth culture, but at what cost? Photo courtesy of Google.
In 2002 three men would make the mistake of introducing the world to the worst possible piece of footwear ever thought of; These three men are named Scott Seamans, Lyndon "Duke" Hanson, and George Boedecker Jr, who founded the Crocs company.
“They are so impractical,” says Emmy Lehmann, a student at Fruita 8/9, “you have to take them off to put them into sports mode,”. Megan Marchant, A teacher at Fruita 8/9 states, “When Crocs first released everyone thought they were atrocious, I am now shocked and outraged that they are now such a staple footwear.” Both of these opinions are quite agreeable, it doesn't make sense that they even made it past an idea.
In addition, the thing that secured my opinion on the atrocity that are Crocs was when I watched the 2006 movie, Idiocracy. In the movie everyone on earth has completely lost intelligence and self values. Guess what shoe they happen to wear? Crocs. The Director stated after the film that they chose them because they were cheap and “no one would ever wear them." Not only that, the costume designer for Idiocracy, Debra Mcguire, picked them because of their strange look which represented how the intelligence and values of humans has declined.
With all this being said the decision to wear crocs is up to you and you only. However, next time you think about wearing Crocs, keep this in mind; do you really want to look as though your intelligence and self value is declining?
