Sneakers squeak across the court. You feel the ball’s grip passing between your hands with each dribble. The bustling gym suddenly feels like a vacuum, with only your racing heart against your chest and the “swoosh” of the basketball net in your mind.
Compared to last year, the girls’ basketball team has won more games and beat teams they never thought they would. For example, the team went on a 6-game winning streak. Last year, they lost to Medina-Highland twice, and this year, they pulled out an upset, beating the Hornets 53-46 to continue a winning streak.
The team is incredibly proud of holding a winning streak this season, especially after a rough run last year. The girls’ team has a 15-6 record this year compared to last year’s 8-13 overall record.
Furthermore, senior captain Sam Stask explained that it’s been “a great feeling to lead the team” this year and that she “enjoyed bonding with her teammates” throughout the season.
Stask and Kailey Feckner both reminisced and agreed that their favorite memory was going to Escapology in Solon. Stask said, “The escape room was so fun! We still couldn’t get out in the hour they gave us.”
3 seniors, 6 juniors, 5 sophomores, 5 freshmen: team bonding fused the girls, creating a solid team and allowing them to take home more victories!
Senior Camryn Cohn said: “Our atmosphere on the team is a lot stronger than it has been in previous years, and everyone gets along with each other. We are all best friends on and off the court, which is really nice!” She continued, “In previous years, every practice hasn’t been as energetic. Now, it’s just like every day we bring energy,” and “we’ve been pushing each other a lot more.”
Moreover, Feckner declared, “We all became a family.”
