Welcome lacrosse to AHS

Mrs. Janzig, who helps many students as a speech-language pathologist at Harmon has started up the great idea of having a lacrosse team at Aurora High School. She has put a lot of time and effort into this club just for the students to be able to have the chance to love this sport, this is something you wouldn’t want to miss out on.

Lacrosse is a fast-paced and dynamic team sport that originated among Native American tribes in North America and is the oldest sport organized from there. It is played with a small rubber ball and long-handled sticks with a netted pocket, the game involves two teams trying to score a goal by shooting the ball into the opponent's net. Lacrosse is known for a combination of speed, skill, and strategy. It is played on a field with teams consisting of attackers, midfielders, defenders, and a goalkeeper. Lacrosse has gained popularity globally and is played at various levels, from youth leagues to professional competitions.

Starting up a club and/or sports team isn’t easy work. They’re many factors that go into it including getting it approved, getting people to join, the money for it, the time and place, etc. Hopefully, if everything goes smoothly we can get this club going strong for the spring.

Lacrosse has become more popular by the day, “There is a growing interest in boys and girls for lacrosse and we wanted to make that happen like so many surrounding schools.” Just like many schools around us, we want to add this fast-growing sport to Aurora High School.

Mrs. Janzig hopes, “To expose as many kids to one of the fastest growing sports in the country.” It’s no secret the love this sport has gained throughout the years and the goal is for many students at Aurora to fall in love too.

Even though at the start of Auroras experience of lacrosse will be known as a club, “Yes, we have to follow the same rules as a varsity sport.” As of right now, lacrosse will be starting as a club. This will help build up the population and love; it will also give kids the chance to learn more about the sport before becoming too serious.

Many people here at AHS are very excited and Mrs. Janzigs hopes you, “Come be a part of history.”
