Senior Savannah Brown does it all!

Senior Savannah Brown is just one of the amazing students graduating from Aurora High School this spring season. From being the Drum Major in the marching band two years in a row, playing/ reffing for soccer, building for crew in the plays/musicals, and teaching archery over the summer at a camp, you could say she does it all.

Savannah started her music career from a young age. She began with playing piano which helped her find her love for music. Savannah stated, “I started playing piano at a young age, so I knew I loved anything to do with music. In fifth grade I joined both band and choir until I moved to Aurora and could only choose one. I ended up joining band since my mom was in band in high school and she knew I would enjoy marching and playing an instrument.”

Two years after joining the high school marching band, heer junior year, Savannah tried out for drum major and made it! She was just a junior in high school. It's a process of interview by the band directors, then conducting in front of the entire band. Now as a senior and drum major once again, Savannah spoke about her nerves of standing in front of the band and having everyone's eyes on her. She says, “At first it was actually terrifying to stand in front of the entire band. I was used to the crowd due to past years in band, but it was so scary to have my mistakes easily identifiable by anyone looking. Now I’ve gotten used to it, but I'm always nervous to mess up!!”

But that's not all our senior Savannah does. Outside of marching band in the high school she's also in the Kent State Youth Band and the Akron Youth Symphony. Savannah commented this about both organizations and why she joined: “The Kent one is composed of all wind players and percussion, and the Akron one is composed of a full orchestra instrumentation. I joined both this year since I was looking for something new to do.” How many people do you know who join college youth band opportunities for fun?

Don't forget about her outdoorsy side! From as long as she can remember, her family has always hunted, so archery was just the next step for her. Since the age of ten she's been practicing archery, from girl scout camp to by herself at Tinkers Creek. Her alfresco personality doesn't stop there. She played soccer for nine years! Savannah may have stopped playing her eighth grade year, but you can still find her on the field reffing for the Aurora rec.

She's more than her sports, she's also an active member of the drama club. She's treasurer but also is in the crew. She's one of the many amazing people who make all the plays and musicals work so smoothie behind the curtain. Savannah has been in seven plays/ Musicals, and has even played in the pit for the spring musical, “Bye, Bye, Birdie.” last year!

Be on the lookout on the field, at target practice, or behind the scenes, you might find Savannah Brown there!
