Philosophy club

Are you a curious person? How often do you find yourself staring into space and thinking about the Roman Empire and how it has affected our society in the modern world? Then the Philosophy Club is the club for you. Run purely by students and often with fun topics to discuss, Philosophy Club has been running for almost three years by students just like you.

Philosophy Club has its own unique approach to government as opposed to other clubs, as many members are often in other clubs and may not have the time to fully commit to a position purely reliant on them. In the structures there is a  dictator, president, and treasurer. Dictator being less of an actual dictator and just being a more interesting way to say the club is run by two people. One president elected by the students in the club and one chosen by the previous presidents.

Dictator Isabella Shorr has this to say about the club: “ It's a discussion-based club where we discuss everything from the ethics of cancel culture to the logic of traditions behind death.” Bella believes that “It's good to have this activity to strengthen our wisdom and become better thinkers as a whole.”

Adviser Dr. Kourennyi commented this when asked about why the club was begun in the first place: “I always wanted to have some philosophical discussions with smart people. Ask any student who has been in my AP Physics 2 class. So, when David Bian shared with me his desire to start a Philosophy Club, I embraced the idea.” Dr. K loved the idea and now the philosophy club has been running for almost three years!

Dr. K also shared his intentions of the club's future, “ I want to see the club prosper in the future, while still being run mostly by students. It is about their thoughts, so it should be run accordingly, especially remembering that it was initiated by students. David Bian can be called the founding father (fall 2021), while Aiden Sexton continued to carry the torch next year. And now it is Isabella Shorr and you (Madeline Lancon)... I will be happy to contribute my thoughts, but only as a peer, a fellow philosopher. After all, what can possibly go wrong? (The last remark is an inner joke based on the YouTube series "Great Moments in Unintended Consequences" popularized in the club by David Bian.)”

Why should you visit philosophy? Who knows? Come to a meeting during A-time on Thursdays and find out!
